Business Analysis & Solutions Engineering (BASE): This company is a major worldwide news and media production company. We were initially asked to develop a ‘dashboard’ to help the client’s engineering support division to manage their data centre assets, monitoring power, weight and cooling for their broadcast systems in Europe. This infrastructure is absolutely critical to the business, reducing the risk of critical failure to broadcast and facilities systems. As a result of this initial work, we have developed numerous other systems to enhance resilience, productivity and profitability.
Some project highlights:
- Major improvements in efficiency have encouraged wider adoption of the systems worldwide.
- The systems improvements are a work in progress – new initiatives are regularly put forward.
- The wider client-base has begun to put forward ideas and requests.
- The number of critical incidents (server fires, power outages, etc) has been significantly reduced.
We have found that Business Analysis & Solutions Engineering naturally bridges the space between business risk and personal safety risk. In practice, strong health and safety management always delivers business benefits – and the reverse is also true. A simple cost-benefit analysis on most projects makes this obvious.
In this project, a monitoring system was already installed across the equipment infrastructure, but it was mainly providing reactive value – alerting the business only after a component had failed. Through discussions with engineers and detailed analysis, Systems2’s BASE team designed and introduced stress-testing systems that allowed these sensors to be used far more proactively. The results for the business have been unequivocally positive and continue to improve.
