Fire Compliance Auditing: This company is one of Britain’s largest water authorities, with over a thousand premises and filtration plants. ‘Fire’ presents a significant risk in many of our client’s premises. Following the updated Building Safety Act and the Grenfell disaster, it was felt that a more intensive review of their premises was needed. Systems2 developed a system for carrying out Enhanced Fire Risk Assessments – including all elements that the Fire Authorities look for (beyond standard FRA’s), such as compartmentation, extraction, dampers and construction materials. In addition, we developed a computerised system for producing a Fire Evacuation Strategy and a Fire Evacuation Plan at the same visit.
Some project highlights:
- Significantly reducing risk by covering more than a standard Fire Risk Assessment.
- Gaining positive comments from Fire Enforcement Authorities by covering important additional issues.
- Reducing maintenance costs.
- Identifying and rectifying faults early, thereby reducing risk and saving money.
‘Fire’ is a critical H&S issue. It is one of the most threatening hazards in regard to both the potential harm to people and also the financial threat to a business. Fatalities as a result of fire remain common in this country, and the cost to a business can often result in bankruptcy. Insurance premiums for fire cover have grown, along with the requirements that the insurers place upon the businesses they insure. Fortunately, the use of new technology and improved safety management systems are able to mitigate these costs and significantly reduce the risks.
In addition to significantly reducing risk within the widespread estates, Systems2 continues to work hard to find added value for the client. Despite being on site with a specific fire safety remit, our staff look for general H&S and facilities management issues and feed these back to the client. This has already resulted in major improvements to planned and preventive maintenance for our client.
