Zen & The Art of Inspirational Training

Most of us attend training from time to time. All too often, training sessions are full of important content, but they fail to inspire the delegates. Something is missing; but what is it?

At S2 we talk about this phenomenon as ‘the spark that starts the fire’. In too many cases, the spark is missing.

So, for S2, this is the key requirement we look for in a trainer. It’s especially important in our business, because we are often dealing with what people see as dry and uninspiring subjects. Who gets excited about the fact that they are due to attend a Health & Safety training session tomorrow?

The same applies to Facilities Management, Risk Assessment, Corporate Security, Manual Handling, Computer Workstation Safety and even Business Resilience Planning. We have to work especially hard at making these subjects exciting, and making sure the training really fits the client’s needs. And when we do, it is truly worthwhile. The pleasure for our trainers, in seeing a class full of excited delegates leaving the session at the end of the day, is a great buzz for them – almost as good as the feedback we receive later and the repeat business.

One of our clients once said to us, about an S2 trainer, that he could inspire a classroom of delegates on the subject of watching paint dry!
